How to Get to Zia?

Zia is located about 14 km southwest of Kos town. There is a pretty mountain village surrounded by green forest near the town of Asfendiu on the mountainside of Dikeos.

There is no public transportation in the village, so the only way to get to Zia is by cab. The trip might be a bit expensive, but it is worth it. Thanks to its idyllic location, you’ll also have a breathtaking view of the entire island.

If you have a rental car in Kos, you can quickly get there. There is a large parking lot in front of the village. However, Zia is one of the most touristy places on the island, so watch out for crowds. It is advisable to arrive in Zia well before sunset.

Attractions of Zia

Zia is only a tiny village, so there is not much to see. The Zia Nature Park is directly adjacent to the village. Therefore, a visit to the village can be easily combined with a visit to the nature park. Here you can mainly see animals, and it is fun to walk around. There are also three churches at the village entrance, one of which offers a beautiful view at sunset. The village has an excellent Greek atmosphere, with many nice restaurants and stores.

The best hot spot in Zia is undoubtedly The Watermill of Zia. This place is not on the village’s main street but is tucked away a bit more on the hillside. The Watermill of Zia is located in a restored old watermill transformed into a traditional cafe with tables, plates, and colorful decorations. You can sit here for a drink or a meal.

Staying Overnight in Zia

This mountain village is probably one of the most beautiful places to stay on the island. Even though it’s a bit far from the beach, there are plenty of accommodations with swimming pools. If you rent a car, you can get to the beach in no time.
